Pennsylvania Senate bill 1063 could modernize practice laws and remove the restrictive requirement for NPs in PA to maintain collaborative agreements with physicians.  Lorraine Bock, AANP member and president of the Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners, explains the benefit of NPs being licensed to practice in PA: “Most professionals have a license to practice, not certification. That designates a level of professional responsibility and autonomy that is not granted through certification, so we need to be licensed,” she said.

AANP member Meshell Mansor is featured in an article about pending legislation in New Jersey that could enable nurse practitioners in that state to sign death certificates.  According to the article, “The debate is one of several centered on the scope of practice for APNs, who are playing an increasingly important role in primary care treatment for many patients.”

First Warning Systems, Inc. (FWS), a digital health, wearable body media and large data company for early breast cancer detection, announced that it has appointed AANP member Barb Dehn, RN, MS, NP to the company’s Clinical Advisory Board. Known as “Nurse Barb” to her television and blog followers, Dehn is the host of Nurse Barb’s Daily Dose which is broadcast throughout the country on ABC and The Live Well Network.

Dr. J. Myron Faircloth, AANP member and an assistant professor in the College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Valdosta State University, has been selected as a member of the second class of the State Bar of Georgia’s Citizens Advisory Council. Read more.

AANP member and Air Force Captain Yusharn Wang was pictured in an article about acupuncture on the US Defense Department Science Blog, “Armed with Science.”

Congratulations to AANP member Kerry Dorius who was presented Alaska’s 2014 Nurse Practitioner of the Year Award by AANP Fellow and Alaska Senator, Cathy Giessel.
