Spotlight on NPs is a weekly article that highlights exciting achievements and activities of American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) members.
According to AANP past president Dr. Angela Golden, “It’s time for the VA to allow nurse practitioners to practice to the full extent of their advanced education and clinical training, as has been the law in Arizona since 2001. It is also time to hire more nurse practitioners to further provide high-quality health care to our veterans.” Read the OpEd, which is also available on U.S. Representative Ann Kirkpatrick’s website.
Palliative care is not to be feared, according to AANP member Kay Shawbitz whose article in the Wisconson Rapids Tribune explained what palliative care is and how it can benefit patients and their families.
AANP member Dr. Julie Schreiner wrote an interesting AdvanceWeb blog about the variety of doctoral degrees available and the careful use of the word “doctor” in health care settings.
AANP urged the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to expand the role of NPs in VA hospitals. AANP President Dr. Ken Miller said, “Given the current crisis facing our nation’s veterans, we urge the VA to expedite the approval process and move quickly to implement these changes across all VA settings. This will have an immediate and positive impact on the quality and timeliness of care that our veterans receive.” Read the article.
