Spotlight on NPs is a weekly article that highlights exciting achievements and activities of American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) members.

Citing high patient satisfaction rates and nearly 50 years of peer-reviewed, independent studies that associate positive outcomes with care provided by NPs, AANP’s Minnesota State Representative Brian Goodroad urged the Department of Veteran’s Affairs to give veterans full and direct access to NP care. AANP members Jill Carter and Suzie Lutts recently opened a new house call health care service to provide regular medical visits to help control patients’ chronic conditions. “Getting early intervention in the home facilitates greater quality of care. It’s something we can do and it’s something we’re passionate about,” Carter said. Read the article.
Heather Norfleet, an AANP member, has a heart for helping the homeless. Norfleet said the health needs of the homeless are many; the wear and tear of always living outside is punishing, she said. But many of her patients also deal with high blood pressure, lack of proper nutrition, arthritis, diabetes and addiction. Giving them basic health care can set the stage for them to rebuild their lives. Learn more.
