Spotlight on NPs is a weekly article that highlights exciting achievements and activities of American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) members.
AANP member and director of the pediatric primary care nurse practitioner program at Columbia University School of Nursing, Dr. Rita John, was featured in an article suggesting simple steps health care providers can take to make shots less frightening for children.
Dr. Monica Scheibmeir, AANP member and dean of the Washburn University School of Nursing, was mentioned in an article regarding current efforts to modernize legislation that impacts APRN practice in Kansas.
Dr. Ken Miller, AANP president, was quoted in an article urging the Veterans Health Administration (VA) to grant nurse practitioners full practice authority. “In all 50 states, nurse practitioners are proven to improve patient access to timely, high-quality care, and that’s exactly what’s needed at the VA today,” Dr. Miller said. “We therefore strongly encourage Secretary McDonald to hire more nurse practitioners and allow them all to practice to the full extent of their education and preparation.”
Congratulations to 18 AANP members who were selected to participate in the AANP Future Leaders Program. AANP believes in the leadership abilities of nurse practitioners and is dedicated to assuring the future of the NP profession by further developing NP leadership skills. Learn more.
