Congratulations to AANP member Dr. Mary Chesney who was recently issued the first APRN license by the Minnesota Board of Nursing. Learn more.
Susan Trainor, an AANP member, wrote an article about diabetes prevention and control. According to Ms. Trainor, “Most people who live with diabetes have type-2 diabetes, and one in four of them don’t know they have the disease. Many people diagnosed with type-2 diabetes have had the disease for 10 years on average before they find out and serious, irreversible damage that is preventable can often develop in the body during this time.”
AANP member Dr. Ann Marie Hart was honored for volunteerism associated with her service at the Laramie, Wyoming, Downtown Clinic. As a family nurse practitioner, Dr. Hart provides primary care services to clients at the clinic. She also coordinates the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at the University of Wyoming. Read more.

A study by AANP member and Keene State’s Director of Nursing Dr. Joan Earle Hahn found that health education was the most common service provided in home visits by nurse practitioners to aging developmentally disabled adults. Nutrition and weight management counseling were also frequently reported, according to an article about the study’s findings.
The Hill published an article based on the recent press release announcing AANP’s 2015 Legislative Priorities. It mentioned NP Week and AANP’s efforts to improve veterans’ access to care by granting NPs full practice authority throughout the Veterans Health Administration system. The article included several timely quotes from AANP President Dr. Ken Miller.
NP Week celebrations are being held nationwide from November 9-15. An article highlighting the important contributions NPs are making in Nebraska included an image of AANP members LaDonna Hart, Jolene Pike, Janet Bock and their coworkers.

AANP’s Utah State Representative, Lee Moss, penned a letter to the editor that was published in the Deseret News. The article stressed the valuable contributions nurse practitioners make and marked the arrival of NP Week.
Dana Bloomburg, an AANP member, was featured in a Q&A session held in honor of NP Week. The article highlighted important contributions Ms. Bloomburg makes to The Midwife Center and its patients.
Congratulations to AANP Fellow Dr. Ric Ricciardi who was appointed to serve as the Senior Nursing Advisor for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). In this role, Dr. Ricciardi will provide guidance on issues related to nursing, serve as a resource regarding the development of initiatives and engagement of the nursing community, and be a primary contact for nursing organizations that interact with AHRQ. Dr. Ricciardi will continue his work in the Center for Evidence and Program Improvement as well. Read his bio.
