Spotlight on NPs is a weekly article that highlights exciting achievements and activities of American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) members.

A new University of Missouri-Columbia study highlighted lower hospital admissions and better health outcomes in Full Practice Authority states. AANP calls on state legislators to adopt Full Practice Authority for better access, lower costs, and improved outcomes for their state’s residents. AANP members Dr. Gina Oliver and Sara Revelle were among the authors of the study.  Read the article and the study.

AANP member Valerie Rupp is manager of Lehigh Valley Health Network’s Simulation and Learning Center, a technology rich facility that was the recipient an $8.9 million grant  to “focus on work force development, getting patients and their families engaged in their own care, using data to drive performance and harnessing technology for better care training and medical records.”  Read more.

Dr. Jeffrey Kwong, an AANP member, is working to eliminate health disparities for the LGBT population in New York.  Read more about a health fair he hosted to provide free health screenings to underserved patients.

A recent meta-analysis explored the safety of acetaminophen use during pregnancy.  AANP Treasurer Dr. Joyce Knestrick was featured in a Clinical Advisor article about the findings of the meta-analysis.

AANP member Eva Sietsema offered readers of the Oskaloosa News a few tips to help women manage symptoms of menopause.

Dr. Kathy Periera, an AANP Fellow, appeared on My Big Fat Fabulous Life, a television show about a woman who suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).  Watch Dr. Periera explain the condition at the 6:30 mark of this video.

David Kanters and Deborah Wheeler, both AANP members, were featured in an article about the care they provide to patients in underserved areas on the North Olympic Peninsula.
