Congratulations to AANP member Melanie Hicklin, who was named the Iowa School Nurse Organization’s 2015 School Nurse of the Year. “It is wonderful to be recognized after 20 years,” Ms. Hicklin said. “I’m just quietly going about my job of helping kids stay healthy.” Read more.

Jill V. Ely, an AANP member and certified diabetes educator, was featured in an article about Diabetes Awareness Day. “The first step in stopping diabetes is to know your risk of this illness,” said Ely. “March 24 is a one day ‘wake up call’ for people to take an easy risk test. The test will measure your risk for developing diabetes.”
AANP Illinois State Rep, Dr. Julie Adkins, was recognized as an “unsung hero” for her generous support of the West Frankfort Illinois Fire Department. This is another example of the countless ways that nurse practitioners inspire and lead. Read more.
An innovative new program benefits from having AANP member Cynthia Smith accompany Green Valley Arizona Fire District crews on medical-aid calls. The program reduces costs by eliminating the need for some patients to be transported to an emergency room in Tucson. Read more.
