Spotlight on NPs is a weekly article that highlights exciting achievements and activities of American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) members.

Congratulations to AANP member Dr. Rhonda Wilt, who received the Health Monitor 2015 Nurse Practitioner LifeChanger Award during the AANP 2015 National Conference.  Learn more about the meaningful impact Dr. Wilt is making, as one of her patients shares her story in this video.

In an article about the effects of wildfire on people in nearby communities, AANP member Aubrey Atkins described potential dangers of breathing air polluted by smoke.  According to Ms. Atkins, “It can potentially impact patients who don’t have chronic lung problems or a known issue. There is the potential for it to cause problems even further down the road because of repeated exposures.”

AANP member Dr. Rebecca Caron was recently recognized by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine for research on “Psychosocial Distress, Coping, and Health-Related Quality of Life in Adult Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS).”  Congratulations Dr. Carron!  Read the press release.

Congratulations to AANP member Dr. Jane Flanagan who received the American Holistic Nurses Association 2015 Research Grant.  Dr. Flanagan will use this grant to help fund her research project ‘Bringing Yoga Home: Exploring the Use of a Web-based Yoga Intervention for Breast Cancer Survivors’.   Learn more.

AANP 2015 National Conference Highlights

In this video interview, AANP 2015 Arizona State Award for Excellence recipient, Dr. Dorothy Dunn, shared her work to improve the health of women in Guatemala by providing free cervical cancer screenings.  She also described how attending AANP conferences helps her gather cutting-edge information that is useful to her as a professor and researcher in the fields of dementia and family caregiving.

AANP member Claudette Graham described her experience at the AANP 2015 National Conference in this video interview and listed three reasons why nurse practitioners might want to attend future AANP conferences.
