Spotlight on NPs

Spotlight on NPs is a weekly article that highlights exciting achievements and activities of American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) members.

Congratulations to AANP Fellow Sandra Ryan who is slated to lead Walmart’s convenient care clinic business as the new VP of Walmart Care Clinics, Health & Wellness Division.  Ms. Ryan is a former chair of the Clinical Advisory Board of the Convenient Care Association.  According to an article in Drug Store News, with more than 25 years of healthcare and leadership experience, “The fact that Walmart has tapped an executive of Ryan’s stature may mean the mass retailer is ready to create some major disruption in the healthcare delivery marketplace.”

Nurse practitioners continue to be on the front lines of health care innovation, as the Health Wagon and AANP Fellows Dr. Teresa Gardner and Dr. Paula Hill Meade participated in a free health clinic in Appalachia that showcased the first federally approved delivery of medication by drone.   Dr. Gardner indicated, “The utility of us being able to get a medication out to a patient in these rural mountainous areas would just be tremendous, and it would save lives.”  Read the article.

Congratulations to AANP member Judith Schmidt, the new Chief Executive Officer of the New Jersey State Nurses Association.  Read more at Tap Into and NJ Biz.

AANP member, Rachel Cabral-Guevara, was featured in an article about the growing popularity of nurse practitioners offering basic health care services to underserved populations.  Patients appreciate both the access to affordable care and the benefit of more personal service.

Congratulations to AANP member Lisa Dilley and AANP Mississippi State Rep Linda Watkins who work for the VA and received letters of appreciation from their patients and Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert A. McDonald.  AANP is a proud supporter of Joining Forces, a White House initiative to raise awareness of health issues affecting America’s military, veterans and their families.  Learn more about Joining Forces.
