Spotlight on NPs

Spotlight on NPs is a weekly article that highlights exciting achievements and activities of American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) members.

Congratulations to AANP Fellow and Leadership Program graduate Dr. Jason T. Shuffitt who will head a new Chamberlain College of Nursing campus in Charlotte, North Carolina.  “It’s my honor to be the leader of Chamberlain’s inaugural campus in North Carolina,” said Dr. Shuffitt. “I’m working with a wonderful team to facilitate our students’ success and educate extraordinary nurses who will be uniquely qualified to address the healthcare needs of their patients. We have the opportunity to contribute to improved healthcare in North Carolina through our students’ passion for caring for their communities.”  Read more.

Congratulations to AANP Fellow Dr. Donna Hallas who was named a member of the new Contemporary Pediatrics Journal Editorial Advisory Board.  AANP member and National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (NAPNAP) president Dr. Cathy Haut was quoted in the press release announcing the partnership between NAPNAP and Contemporary Pediatrics.

AANP member Karen Craig was mentioned in an article describing how having a positive attitude and social support helps patients undergoing breast cancer treatment.  According to Ms. Craig, “My job is to find the cancer, to find it and to present it not as a death sentence, but as something to survive.  I work with the most compassionate women.  We work together to listen to these women and find out about their feelings and show them we care. We let them know it is not doomsday, that there is hope.”

Tedra Smith, an AANP member,  was quoted in an article about school nurses meeting growing health care needs, especially for children with chronic illnesses.  Read more.
