Spotlight on NPs

Spotlight on NPs is a weekly article that highlights exciting achievements and activities of American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) members.

Congratulations to AANP member Ruth Galbraith, who was named the 2015 Nurse Practitioner of the Year by the Nurse Practitioner Association of South Dakota (NPASD).  Ms. Galbraith is also the 2016 NP State Award for Excellence recipient from South Dakota.  Read more.

It was great to see AANP Fellow Robert Smithing among the Seattle Times pictures of 2015!  If you do not have time to view all the pictures, you may view only the image of Mr. Smithing.

Congratulations to AANP member Christelle Leiker, who was recognized by Nestlé Health Science with the OPTIFAST® “INSPIRE” award for her unwavering commitment to promoting the health and well-being of her patients.  According to the press release, “the award recognizes outstanding health care professionals for their dedication to helping patients achieve long-term weight loss and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.”

AANP member Dr. Kathy Jackson’s community health project was featured in an article that applauded her efforts to deliver fresh produce to those who have difficulty accessing healthy food.  The project involves a partnership with Farmers Against Hunger and the Housing Authority of the City of Camden, NJ.  #NPsLead

Congratulations to AANP member Dr. Brenda Hage, who was honored with a Daily Point of Light Award from the Points of Light Foundation in recognition of her volunteer efforts as the associate medical director and family nurse practitioner at the Hope Center in Luzerne, PA.  Read more.

Varsha Singh, an AANP member and Jonas IV Nurse Leader Scholar, was recently named the 2015 March of Dimes Nurse of the Year in the Advanced Practice category. Congratulations Ms. Singh!  Read the press release to learn more.

AANP member Sister Debra Koleka was the commencement speaker for Mount Marty College graduates, where she shared insight gleaned from years of experience in the health care field.  Congratulations to Sister Koleka and the 2015 graduates!  Read more.

Debbi Lindgren-Clendenen, an AANP member, was quoted in an article about telehealth increasing access to health care for patients.  She credits telehealth with brining “the high tech, high touch services of cardiology to the outreach areas that normally don’t have these services available to them on a regular basis.”

An article about Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) delegates who are empowering union members by sharing health information mentioned AANP member Kim Newlin. According to the article, Ms. Newlin emphasized the importance of women knowing the signs and symptoms of coronary artery disease, and she urged each person to be an educated advocate on the issue through resources like the Spread the Word website.

The New Year is an opportune time to address health and healthy resolutions. AANP member Hope Mathern told viewers of her local news station that staying active, even for 30 minutes a day, is beneficial to their health.  Read more of the health tips she offered.

AANP member Jayme Rosenberger was featured in an article regarding patients who sought IV hydration therapy after celebrating the New Year.
